Conscience
What..
The conscience group was set up in order to raise awareness of Human Rights issues among the people in our reach.
Actions..
Our first event took place on the 27th of April in the Cafe Twee Heren. We organised a discussion drink with the topic Human Rights vs Patent Rights in regards to the AIDS/HIV medication issue: Human Rights vs. Patent Rights.
Three spaekers from UM and the Ministry of foreign affairs came, who gave sufficient background information and facilitated the discussion among and with the audience.
As the discussion drink was a success the conscience group plans on repeating the event with other subjects.
In June we had a comparative Lecture and Debate about the Genocide in Dafur ("Sudan - Forgotten People? - The Orgins of Genocide").
In November we had a Discussion Drink on the current War on Terror.
Does the War on Terror go hand in hand with Human Rights?
Pr. Bal (on Criminal Law) and Joris van Poecke (on Terrorism) were the speakers. The event succeeded yet we are hoping to make our events bigger!
