Guantanamo Bay is an American military base in Cuba. 775 detainees have been imprisoned there under inhumane circumstances for an indefinite period since the beginning of 2002. Many of them are exposed to torture and ill-treatment. They are held in isolation, are forced to stand for extended periods of time and suffer from sleep deprivation. They are being held as part of the US war against terrorism, however there is no significant evident against them. No one has ever been convicted of a criminal offence.
Amnesty International believes that they should receive proper legal representation, leading to either a fair trial or release. AI is also campaigning for the camp to shut down permanently.
As a subgroup of AIMS we want to raise awareness about this issue. We’re organizing movie nights, discussions and street theatres in order to express our opposition to the human rights abuses in Guantanamo Bay.
