The Naked European Citizen: surveillance in the EUdinsdag 30 oktober , 8 PM • Aula Bestuursgebouw Minderbroederberg 4-6 • Prof. Dr. D. Korff, Professor of International Law, London Metropolitan University
This lecture will provide a critical overview of the surveillance culture that is fast developing in the European Union, through inter-governmental policies against terrorism, money-laundering, organised crime etc.Professor Korff will outline the measures themselves and point out the serious threats to human rights posed by them. He will show that Governments often adopt measures through the EU mechanisms in order to evade domestic scrutiny and opposition.
Douwe Korff wants a Union based on the Rule of Law and respect for human rights - not one in which Governments can by-pass democratic controls and impose secret measures and ever-more systems of control on us.
